monica merrell, administrative and financial secretary

Monica Merrell

Administrative & Financial Secretary

Monica grew up in the Starnes Cove community on the west side of Asheville. She and her husband, Brent, joined Starnes Cove Baptist Church in 2000. She began serving in the children’s ministry during the same year and she continues to oversee the children’s ministry. She started her job as the financial and administrative secretary in 2005. She loves her job, but she loves her church family even more.  Monica enjoys serving in children’s ministry, spending time with her family, and being outdoors. She and Brent have two daughters and they live in Haywood County.

angel brock, publications secretary

Angel Brock

Publications Secretary

Angel was born and raised in Candler and has been a member of Starnes Cove since 2010. She & her husband Seth who grew up here at Starnes Cove have been married since 2021, and reside in Asheville. Angel also owns a branding and web design business in addition to being our Publications Secretary. When she isn't working, you can find her either in the kitchen trying a new sourdough recipe, in the yard working on a home project with her 8 chickens not far behind or watching sports with her husband!

kathy glass, pianist

Kathy Glass

Pianist

Kathy grew up in nearby Waynesville.  Her mother was a church organist and her father sang in the choir, so she has attended choir practices for as long as she can remember. Kathy moved to Asheville in 1980. She and her husband, Gary, joined SCBC in early 1982, and she became the church pianist later that year.  She serves as Praise Team leader for contemporary worship music.  She is thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord with her musical gifts, and she is appreciative of the support of her husband, which allows her to serve in this capacity. She and Gary have two grown children who are both married and are serving the Lord where they are (Asheville and Austin, Texas). They have two grandchildren! Kathy enjoys being with family, sewing, and playing guitar. She is grateful for good health and the blessings that allow her to grow in her walk with her Lord Jesus Christ.

carol radford, organist

Carol Radford

Organist

Carol and her family joined SCBC in 1977 after her husband, Jack’s, retirement from the USAF. She became the church organist the same year. Wherever his AF assignments took them, she was blessed to serve as an organist, including churches in Florida, Arkansas, Hawaii, and Virginia. She loves to be with God’s people on Sundays and to praise him through music. Carol has had the privilege of teaching in many of the places where they have lived. She loves God’s word and leading adult Bible studies, particularly her long-time Sunday School class that she still leads. She served as the church’s first full-time administrative secretary from 1991-2001, along with other roles in the church. She has two children, a son, and a daughter, and five grandchildren. Her husband died in 2014, after nearly fifty-nine years of marriage.
